Frequently asked questions
How does MemeCaptions generate captions?
Combinatorially. Each of the 12 formats has a caption structure stored as frames with topic, option A and option B slots. The generator fills the slots with your inputs, applies a tone twist (savage, wholesome, professional or chaotic), and returns 10 variants. Two-part formats return paired lines.
Is MemeCaptions an AI tool?
No. There is no language model and no server call. It is a template-based idea generator written in plain JavaScript that runs in your tab. That is a feature: it is instant, free, works offline once loaded, and your topics never leave your device.
Which formats are supported?
Drake, This Is Fine, Distracted Boyfriend, Two Buttons, Change My Mind, Surprised Pikachu, Woman Yelling at a Cat, Success Kid, Stonks, Doge, Expanding Brain, and Bernie "I Am Once Again Asking" — twelve formats, each with its own caption structure.
How do the paired inputs work?
Formats built on contrast — Drake, Distracted Boyfriend, Two Buttons, Woman Yelling at a Cat, Expanding Brain — show two extra fields for the two sides of the joke. Fill them for full control, or leave them blank and the generator derives a pair from your topic.
Are the example captions on this site original?
Yes. Every curated list (funny, Drake, This Is Fine, Instagram, work, birthday, cat) was written for MemeCaptions. Classic format names are used descriptively; no captions or images are copied from other sites.
Can I use the captions commercially?
The generated caption text is yours, including for commercial posts. Pair it with an image you have the right to use — MemeCaptions supplies words only, no images.
Do you store my topics or captions?
No. There is no account, no database and no analytics call carrying your text. Generation happens locally; closing the tab clears everything.
What is Pro and when does it launch?
Pro is a planned $9/month tier with saved collections, larger pattern banks, team tone presets and caption history. It is not on sale yet, there is no checkout, and nothing is billed. The free generator will stay free.
