Meme caption generator

Stuck on the words? Pick a template and a topic — get 10 caption ideas that fit the format, and copy the one that lands.

A meme caption only works when it matches its format's structure: Drake needs a rejected/approved pair, Change My Mind needs one hot take, Surprised Pikachu needs a setup and its obvious consequence. MemeCaptions builds captions that way — template structure × your topic × your tone — entirely in your browser. It is a template-based idea generator, not an AI model.

Runs entirely in your browser. This is a template-based idea generator — it combines each format's caption structure with your topic and tone. It is not an AI language model, and every suggestion is a starting point to edit, not a finished joke.

Your 10 caption ideas will appear here.
TipShort and specific beats long and general. Pick the one that makes you exhale through your nose, then trim it.

Captions for 12 classic formats

Each format has its own caption grammar. The generator follows it; the dedicated pages explain it with examples.

How it works

1. Pick the format

Choose the template you are posting — the caption structure changes with it.

2. Add topic & tone

Type the situation ("group projects", "my cat at 3am"). For paired formats, fill in both options or let the generator build the contrast.

3. Copy the one that lands

Ten variants, each with a Copy button and a Share to X link. Edit the winner — specific beats generic every time.

Frequently asked questions

What is a meme caption generator?

A meme caption generator suggests the words that go on a meme. MemeCaptions does it by structure: it takes each classic format's caption pattern — Drake's rejected/approved pair, Surprised Pikachu's three beats, Doge's two-word phrases — combines it with your topic and tone, and returns 10 original caption variants you can copy and edit.

Is MemeCaptions an AI tool?

No. MemeCaptions is a template-based idea generator that runs entirely in your browser. It combines caption structures, topic slots and tone twists combinatorially — no AI language model, no server, and your topic never leaves your device. The suggestions are starting points; the final joke is yours.

How do I get captions for a two-part meme like Drake?

Choose the Drake format in the generator, type your topic, and optionally fill in the rejected option and approved option yourself. Leave them blank and the generator derives a contrast pair from your topic. Every result is a paired two-line caption, ready to paste onto the template.

What do the tones do?

Tone twists the same caption idea four ways. Savage adds a roast, wholesome softens it into something kind, professional makes it safe for a work chat, and chaotic adds unhinged group-chat energy. Same topic, four very different posts.

Can I use these captions commercially?

The caption text generated here is yours to use, including in commercial posts. MemeCaptions hosts no meme images, so pair the words with an image you have the right to use — your own photo, an openly licensed image, or a template from a library that permits it.

Is MemeCaptions free?

Yes. The full generator, all 12 formats, all four tones and every curated caption list are free with no account. A Pro plan at $9/month is planned (saved collections, bigger pattern banks) but is not on sale yet and nothing is billed.

Pro — coming soon

MemeCaptions Pro ($9/mo, coming soon — not billed today) is planned to add saved caption collections, larger pattern banks per format, team tone presets and caption history. Everything on this page stays free. See pricing.
